Best Show of Christmas Primestock for Several Years at Lancaster

North West Auctions Lancaster Mart enjoyed a highly successful special Christmas Show & Sale of Primestock last Monday. An excellent entry of 50 prime cattle and bulls included a tremendous show of prize cattle which were presented to the show judge Mr Steven Seddon of Blackburn. Championship honours were award to Alan Riley, West Lodge whose son Rex Riley proudly showed the home bred Champion Belgian Blue heifer. Reserve Champion honours went to Graeme Jackson, Hill Top Farm with a top quality Belgian Blue bullock. The champion animal went on to make £3.10 per kilo (£1612) and was bought by CJ Bowker butcher of Carnforth. The reserve animal was purchased for £2 per kilo (£1230) by the judge Mr Steve Seddon.

Earlier in the day prime lambs were judged by Mr Chris Staines of Vion who had a difficult task in what was felt to be the best quality show of prime lambs at Lancaster for several years. His worthy Championship pen was a pen of Texel lambs from ME Wannop & Sons, Heaton Hall. These went on to make £98 per head and were purchased by Mr Roy Schofield for Samuel Howarth Ltd butcher of Diggle. Trade overall could not match last weeks sensational level. Lambs this week averaged 162p/kg for all weights and grades.
