Kendal Saturday 16/10/10 Rough Fell Rams

North West Auctions Kendal Mart held the Annual Sale of Rough Fell Breeding Rams on behalf of the Rough Fell Sheep Breeders Association last Saturday. This event is popular in the sales calendar being the only Association sale in existence. The cream of Rough Fell breeders were in attendance and a superb entry of rams graced the sale ring throughout the day.

Judging was in the capable hands of S Matthews (aged rams), R Simpson & G Udale (shearling rams), R McBurnie (ram lambs) & I Dickinson (overall champion).

The overall champion for 2010 was awarded to Messrs G H Capstick & Sons, Birkhaw whose home bred shearling ram went on to make 1800gns (£1890). The reserve champion award went to Mr B J Thompson, Poppy Farm who tup lamb sold for 300gns (£315).

As always Mr Norman Dodd of Flakebridge produced an excellent run of sheep achieving the top price of the day which was 4800gns (£5040). Mr Dodd went on to sell a run of 10 shearling rams to average £1257.

Throughout the sale there were 19 tups making over £1000 and the overall average for Rough Fell Shearlings was £523.
