      Michael has practised as a Rural Valuer, Auctioneer and Surveyor for over 55 years and has a wide knowledge and experience in all aspects of the work. He is also one of the country's leading arbitrators for landlord and tenant disputes and so is the person to approach first when you think you may have an issue and need advice.  He is a recent Past President of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers.

      Kathryn Sayce, MRICS

      Kathryn Sayce, MRICS, joined the team in 2016, having previously worked for Richard Turner & Son for 12 years, dealing with farmer based clientele. Prior to that, she worked for Carter Jonas in Kendal, dealing with all aspects of Estate Management.

      Kathryn is very much a hands on farmer, living and working on a hill farm on the outskirts of Bentham.

      Greg Gilding, BSc(Hons) MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor

      Greg qualified in 1988 and worked at MB Hodgson & Son between 1990 -1997. He has many successful and varied development and building projects built and in use throughout the North West region, including barn conversions, new build houses, extensions to listed buildings and large industrial premises.  Greg has now re-joined our team full time and will be available to meet clients at either of our auction sites by appointment or why not call in to J36 on a Tuesday for a free consultation.

    • Rodney Coward - Farm Advisory Services Manager

      Rodney Coward

      Rodney joined the company to set up a brand new department which we call Farm Advisory Services, in 2006. With a background in banking and then as Group Secretary for the NFU in Ulverston for 20 years, Rodney prides himself on providing a no-nonsense service to our customers in a very cost-effective way. Rodney lives in Allithwaite and is married with two grown sons.

    • Charlotte Ormondroyd BA (Hons) - Trainee Land Agent

      Charlotte joined the team in 2017 as a trainee Land Agent, she will be working towards her RICS accreditation over the next two years. Charlotte previously worked at Bentham Auction Mart as Market Administrator, prior to this Charlotte was a Supply Chain Analyst for Morrisons PLC.

      Charlotte farms with her partner Nick in Claughton, where they lamb 350 Swaledale Ewes & Texel Hoggs along with running a small herd of suckler cattle.

      Outside of work Charlotte enjoys breeding pedigree Beltex Sheep & showing her parents Hereford Cattle at local and regional shows.

    • Carole Hodgson - Farm Advisor

      Carole Hodgson

      Carole joined the company in March 2012 further strengthening this growing department.  Carole has previously worked for the Lake District National Park Authority and Country Landowners' Association and is well-known to many of our customers.  Carole will work alongside Rodney Coward in the J36 - Kendal office.  Carole lives in Selside with partner, James Dixon, who is also a Director of the parent company, L&K Group Plc.

    • Ian Atkinson BSc (Hons) ALAA - Auctioneer & Trainee Land Agent

      Ian  Atkinson BSc (Hons) ALAA

      Ian joined the team on a permanent basis in July 2013 having graduated from Harper Adams Univesity College.  Ian is a keen livestock auctioneer and sells at both Lancaster and J36 selling Prime Sheep, Calves and Breeding Sheep.  Ian is working towards becoming a Chartered Rural Surveyor and will be completing his APC later in 2017.

      In Autumn 2015 Ian was nominated for the Farmers Guardian The Marts the Hearts 'New Auctioneer of the Year' award and was short-listed to the final five, the awards were opened up to a public where over 5,000 votes were received for the categories ‘Auctioneer of the Year’, ‘New Auctioneer of the Year’ and ‘Auction Mart Café of the Year’. Together with the public vote, judges gave their opinion on the finalists, resulting in Ian securing the top spot and awarding him this national award.

      Gillian Ellis

      Gillian has been with the firm for over 20 years, having first started working for Michael Mashiter at M.B. Hodgson. She is the first point of call in the office and ensures that everything runs smoothly – the team can’t cope when she is away! Outside of work she is a keen skier and heads off to the slopes every year

      Olivia Muir

      Olivia joined the team at J36 in 2013 as Receptionist and Facilities Co-ordinator.  Liv ensures all our calls are answered and helps with general enquiries for all our businesses aswell as enquiries relating to the conference and training room bookings and lending a hand in the Livestock office on busy sale days. 

      In July 2015 Liv took on the role of Head of PR & Media, she is in charge of keeping our Facebook and Twitter Pages upto date trying to get as much press coverage of the sales as possible.

      A keen young farmer member Liv loves our business and does everytihng with a smile on her face - we like happy staff.

    • Gary Capstick, AIA (Scot) - Auctioneer

      Gary Capstick, AIA (Scot)

      Gary is one of our senior auctioneers selling at both Kendal and Lancaster. He works part-time (although an auctioneer's work is never done) and he also farms in Ingleton. He is respected as being one of the best auctioneers in the northwest. Gary sells the store cattle and OTM Cattle at J36 and Lancaster, which is now gaining the reputation as being the best weekly store cattle market in the North. Gary also undertakes a large number of annual stock valuations for our customers.

    • Yvonne Willison - Auctioneer & Fieldsman Co-ordinator

      Yvonne Willison

      Yvonne joined our team in the middle of October 2016 as a fieldsman and auctioneers co-ordinator.

      Yvonne lives in Levens with her husband Rob and son Freddie on a mixed Dairy and Sheep Farm, where they milk 140 pedigree Jerseys and lamb 1200 Mule, Swaledale and Highlander sheep. Every year Yvonne and Rob purchase Bluefaced Leicester Ram Lambs to try and then sell on as Shearlings at the NWA Bluefaced Leicester Sale at J36. She has previously worked at Bentham Auction for 10 years in a marketing
      administrator role.

      Yvonne is based at J36 and works a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

    • Bradley Thompson - Fieldsman

      Bradley Thompson

      Bradley joined NWA as an apprentice in Business Studies and after working for two years in the office and on completing the course in the summer of 2015 took on the role of Fieldsman, while doing some clerical work on sale days.

      Brads main interests outside of work is Livestock, he breeds high quality Beltex X sheep which he enjoys showing and also enjoys showing cattle. He is also an active member of Grayrigg YFC, enjoying the social element to the full.

      Bill Nelson, FLAA

      Bill joined the team as Livestock Manager for both Lancaster Auction and J36 Crooklands in October 2013 and in September 2015 took on the role as Business Development Manager & Auctioneer.

      Bill is in charge of the specialist sales which occur at the market including Rare Breeds, Plants and Shrubs, Pedigree sales and Poultry along with whole site events including the quarterly Farmers Market and household sales.

      Kath Robinson

      Kath has worked for us since 1987 and knows pretty much all there is to know about the running of a sale and the office administration.  Kath loves to work alongside the auctioneers in the box on a sale day and dealing with customers in the office afterwards.  Kath is married to George and lives at Crooklands Nr Milnthorpe.

      Amy Clarke

      Amy works full time in the livestock admin offices at both Lancaster and J36.  She is a fun-loving memeber of the team who enjoys all aspects of the job, from clerking a sale, producing dairy catalogues, assisting the team of young auctioneers, and assiting the office manager at both sites.

      Cheryl Hutchinson

      Cheryl works at both our centres on a sale days working in the office and also as an auctioneers clerk.

      Hannah  Sowerby

      Hannah joined North West Auctions in the summer of 2015 after completing her GCSE's. 

      Hannah has joined the busy livestock team assisting in the office on sale days and helping on reception on non sale days whilst studying a Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration. You'll find Hannah at both J36 and Lancaster.

      Hannah is a keen member of Eden Valley YFC and out of work enjoys showing Dairy Cows and playing hockey.

    • Jayne Knowles - Office Assistant & Photographer

      Jayne Knowles

      Jayne has been doing for photography for NWA since 2008 making sure we have plenty of live action sale day photos plus the all important show winners. In Autumn 2016 Jayne began working in our office on Friday's at Lacnaster and also on busy sale days at J36. 

      Jayne lives in Selside with her Husband Brian and farms Rough Fell Sheep, Swaledale Sheep a small flock of half bred sheep and cattle.

      Kath works in both the office and in the yard on sale days. Mainly working at Lancaster but she will also call in at Kendal when additional help is needed. She is fully trained with the EID readers (we are glad someone is!). She is married to Ted who also works at Lancaster and Kendal in the yard.

      Jill Harper

      Jill works part-time for both auctions covering for holidays and busy sales.  She is often called upon at short notice to help out at any of the sales.

      Katie Black, ACIS

      Katie joined the company in 1994 shortly after qualifying as a Chartered Secretary. Katie has many varied roles in the company including financial, administration, personnel, shareholders, directors meetings, health and safety and more recently has been very involved in the company's relocation of Kendal mart to J36. She is married with two young children and lives on the family's farm in Staveley, Nr Kendal.

      Ronnie Keith

      Ronnie joined the company in 2012 relocating from the northeast shortly before the old Kendal site closed for relocation to J36.  Ronnie is repsonsible for the smooth running of the yard and on sale days is to be found amongst the stock and ensuring our staff welcome our customers with a friendly and efficient service.  Ronnie also keeps his own stock and has a keen interest in assisting all our customers and getting to know how we can help.  Ronnie is married to Kim and lives in Grange over Sands.

      John Baines

      John is the yard foreman at Lancaster and works full-time. He runs a tight ship and organises the staff, making sure we are there to help you load and unload your stock easily. If you need to organise an early or late delivery/collection just contact John who will do his best to assist.

      Raymond Robinson

      Raymond Robinson works at both Kendal and Lancaster Auctions. He is renowned for his skill in counting sheep and can probably recognise most of our Kendal customers sheep markings - very clever Raymondo! He farms at Crooklands.

      Robert is possibly our longest serving member of yardstaff. He works at both Kendal and Lancaster and is married to Barbara who also works part-time on the office at Lancaster

    • John Drinkall - L&K Group Director and Chairman

      John Drinkall

      John is the Chairman of L&K Group Plc.

      John runs a large dairy and sheep farm on the Abbeystead Estate near Lancaster with his three sons. He is totally committed to the Auction Mart business and was instrumental in bringing the two businesses of Lancaster Auction and Kendal Auction together in 2005.

      Trevor is also a director of M B Hodgson and Son Limited and is currently heading up the team involved with the relocation of Kendal Auction

    • John Geldard - L&K Group Director

      John Geldard

      John Geldard joined the L & K Group board as a non-executive member in 2005 after nine years as a member of Lancaster Farmers' Auction Mart board of directors.

      John farms in partnership with his wife, Rachel and sons, Richard and Charles at Low Foulshaw, Levens, near Kendal. The 500 acre grassland farm carries a commercial suckler herd, a nucleus herd of Stabiliser cattle, flocks of pedigree Charollais and Lleyn sheep and a free range poultry unit. John is a director of his off-farm diversification enterprise, Plumgarths, a local sourcing hub located in the family's converted traditional stone building at Kendal.

    • Dr Monica Lee - L&K Group Director

      Dr Monica Lee

      Monica Lee has a smallholding in Wyresdale and has rare breed sheep, and is a Director of L & K Group plc as well as Chair of M B Hodgson and Son now trading as NWA Professional and NWA Property.

      She is Chair of Governors of Cawthorne's Endowed School, Abbeystead and a Trustee of the Cawthorne Educational Trust, and the Abbeystead Parish Hall Trust. Monica is also a Chartered Psychologist and is at the forefront of Human Resource Development and Management thinking and was the first female to be made Professor of HRD in the UK. She has lectured in the US, India, and Asia and been actively involved in developments in Russia and Central Europe. She is Visiting Professor at Northumbria University and a life-long Member of Lancaster University. She has written extensively and the Academy for HRD have created the Monica M Lee Award for research excellence in her name.

    • James Dixon - L&K Group Director

      James Dixon

      James was appointed Director of L & K Group in April 2008 and is a well known farmer and businessman in the Lakeland area.

      He has recently completed his term as Chairman of the Westmorland County Agricultural Society and is also involved with the North West HGQ Beef initiative. He lives and farms in Selside, near Kendal.

    • Alan Bargh - L&K Group Director

      Alan Bargh joined the board of L & K Group Plc in April 2008 and runs his family farm in Heaton with Oxcliffe, Morecambe, Lancashire.

      He is another well known and well respected businessman and is a welcome addition to the L & K Group Board of Directors

    • Stuart Cornthwaite - L&K Group Director

      Stuart Cornthwaite has been a non-executive director for L& K Group Plc since its formation in 2005 and previously as a director of Lancaster Farmers' Auction Mart Co Limited since 2002.

      He is the Managing Director of haulage firm S J Bargh Limited. He lives with his family near Lancaster.

    • Jill Bargh - L&K Group Director

      Jill Bargh

      Jill has been surrounded by farming all her life, spending her first 30 years living and helping on her parents dairy/arable farm at Conder Green, Lancaster. In 1986 she joined NatWest Bank remaining there for 25 years, and for the last 15 worked as a member of NatWest’s North West Agricultural Team, helping to meet farmers financial needs. She worked with many farmers through the distress of the Foot and Mouth Crisis providing an empathising ear, as well as the additional borrowing requirements needed ahead of the compensation payments being made. After having her second child in 2011 she took the decision to focus on family life. She presently helps her husband with his dairy farm in Bentham and is delighted to join the L & K Group where she can once again make a contribution to the wider farming industry.

    • David Barton - L&K Group Director

      David  Barton

      David is a third generation dairy farmer, farming at Lupton Hall near Kirkby Lonsdale. He is married to Margaret and has two sons, David and Richard. Lupton Hall is an all grass rented farm totalling 500 acres and he milks 270 cows with a similar number of followers. He is the current Chairman of Lunesdale Agricultural Society and likes nothing better than watching Rugby on a Saturday afternoon at Underley Park and various other rugby grounds throughout the north of England following Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club.

    • Jonathan Hodgson - L&K Group Director

      Jonathan lives and farms at High Borrans, Windermere with his wife and 3 children. He comes from a close knit farming family who have all worked together to build up a strong business incorporating 5 hill farms.

      Swaledale Sheep, North of England Mules and Limousin Cattle, along with Rugby, are his passions. Jonathan has recently completed the chairmanship of the Kendal Branch of NEMSA.

      He strongly believes that the Auction Mart plays a vital role in supporting and sustaining a viable farming community.

      Kevin  Kendal, FIA (Scot)

      Kevin has been with the company since 1989. Following a group restructure in 2003 Kevin was promoted to saleroom manager and given the task of expanding the furniture and fine arts side of the business.  More recently Kevin has taken on the additional role of sales promotion, business growth and PR.

      David Brookes, ASFAV

      David is an associate member of The Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers and has been involved with antiques and auctions for 25 years. He started his career at an auction room in Cheshire, worked for Phillips (The London auction house now part of Bonhams) and later as principal of a Derbyshire based auction room. David has been employed by 1818 Auctioneers as Fine Arts Valuer since 2005.

      David Hunter

      David joined the team as saleroom assistant in 2003, progressing through the ranks to become an auctioneer and valuer. He now catalogues the specialist auctions of Beswick, Doulton and Border Fine Arts and Toys, Models and Railwayana.

      Jackie Rothwell

      Jackie joined the company in September 1997 and worked in both Livestock and MBH estate agents before transferring to the saleroom in 2005. Jackie has worked in the saleroom for a number of years as an auctioneers clerk, but more recently her interest in the jewellery and gold and silver departments has resulted in her promotion to Jewellery Advisor.
