LATEST NEWS AND INFORMATION

IMPLEMENTATION OF FOOD CHAIN INFORMATION FOR CATTLE, SHEEP AND GOATS ON 1st JANUARY 2010

As you may be aware new legislative requirements come into force as from 1st January 2010 for Food Chain Information (FCI) for cattle, sheep and goats. The implementation of FCI for cattle, sheep and goats completes the introduction of FCI for all food animal species - from this date FCI must be provided for all animals consigned to the market.  This means that an FCI declaration must be signed by the producer and this must accompany the animals to the Market/Slaughterhouse.

CATTLE - We have amended our Cattle Entry form to include the declaration for any Cattle which you bring into the Market.

SHEEP & GOATS - In respect of Sheep & Goats DEFRA are to include the declaration within the AML1 form which already has to accompany animals when moved but until these are available we have produced a declaration which will have to be completed as well as the current AML1 forms.

Completion of the FCI Declarations are a requirement by LAW and we ask for your co-operation in completing them as animals which do not have a declaration cannot be accepted by the slaughterhouses.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

AUCTION MARTS GET EMERGENCY DEFIBRILLATOR UNITS

Staff at Kendal and Lancaster Auction Marts have been trained in the emergency use of AED units.  The units have been supplied by the local ambulance service and are funded by the National Lottery and British Heart Foundation.  Staff at both sites attended training sessions in the use of the AED's and administration of CPR. These units will only shock a patient in suspected cardiac arrest (VF) cases if necessary, they cannot shock a patient with any form of regular or irregular pulse and are designed to give a patient the best possible chance of survival when suffering a cardiac arrest.  3000 of these AED units are being installed around the country in places where people gather, such as shopping centres, town halls, auction marts and gyms.

PLANNING APPLICATION APPROVED FOR KENDAL AUCTION

Planners have approved the application for a residential development on the whole of the Auction Mart site on Appleby Road, Kendal, subject to a small number of conditions to be approved by the SLDC Officers.  Full consent should be received during 2009.

The development put forward with Miller Homes will eventually see 107 homes built on the 4-acre site, 50% of which will be affordable, once the Auction Mart has moved to a new, improved site near to J36 of the M6 motorway at Crooklands, close to the Westmorland County Agricultual Show site.  Plans for the new auction mart and agricultural-related units are also expected to get council approval during 2009.
